How to write a review

How to post a review step by step, what makes one genuinely useful, and what happens to it after you press send.

    Checked 6 September 2026

A good review is the reason somebody else has a great meal. You do not need to write like a critic — you just need to say honestly what happened.

Posting a review, step by step

    1. Sign in or create a free account. Reviews are tied to a member so that diners can trust them.
    2. Find the restaurant through search, the map or Explore, and open its page.
    3. Press Write a review. You will find it in the reviews section of the page.
    4. Give a star rating out of five for your overall experience.
    5. Write your review. A short paragraph or two is plenty. See below for what is worth mentioning.
    6. Add photos if you have them — up to five per review. Details are in Adding photos to a review.
    7. Press send. You will see a confirmation, and you will be told when the review goes live.

You can review a restaurant you have visited whether or not you booked through us. If you did book, confirming your visit afterwards earns you extra points.

    What to write about

Think about what you wanted to know before you went, and answer that:

    • The food. Name the dishes. "The octopus curry was properly spiced and came with three farata" tells a reader more than "food was nice".
    • The atmosphere. Was it loud or calm, romantic or family chaos, air-conditioned or open to the sea breeze? Would you bring a toddler, a date, your parents, a business guest?
    • Service. Attentive, relaxed, rushed? How long did you wait?
    • Value. Roughly what did you pay per person, and did it feel fair?
    • Practical things. Parking, whether it was easy to find, whether you needed to book, whether the terrace is worth asking for.
    • The little things. The view at sunset, the bread, the one dish you would go back for.

    If something went wrong

Say so — clearly and specifically. A review that explains the problem is far more useful, and far fairer to the restaurant, than an angry one star with no detail. Give the date, what you ordered, what went wrong, and whether the staff tried to fix it. If they put it right, that is worth mentioning too; recovering well is a real quality in a restaurant. Please leave people's names out of it, and keep it about the meal and the service.

If the problem is a matter of fact rather than experience — wrong opening hours, wrong phone number, the place has closed or moved — that is not a review. Use Report wrong details on the restaurant page and we will fix the listing.

    What we cannot publish

    • Reviews of places you have not actually visited
    • Personal attacks, abuse, or discriminatory language
    • Phone numbers, links, or anything promotional
    • Reviews written to help or harm a competitor
    • The same review posted repeatedly

What happens after you press send

Every review goes through an automatic check first. Most are published quickly. If the check is unsure about something, a member of our team reads it, and you are told the outcome either way.

If your review is rejected, nothing you wrote is lost. You can open it, edit it and resubmit — most rejections are simply a matter of removing a phone number or softening a personal remark.

Once published, the restaurant's owner may reply once in public. Other readers can mark your review as helpful, and can also flag it; several flags bring it back to our team for another look.

    Editing or deleting later

Open your profile, find the review, and edit or delete it whenever you like. An edited review passes through the same check again before the new version appears.
