Boil dhal on high heat until soft, stirring occasionally

Drain excess water using a colander

    5. 5

Grind the boiled dhal to a coarse mixture using a food processor

    6. 6

Roast the grinded dhal over medium heat for 6-7 minutes, stirring, then keep aside

    7. 7

Mix milk with yellow food colouring and cardamom powder

    8. 8

Melt ghee in a pan over medium heat

    9. 9

Add cinnamon, sliced almonds and dried raisins and cook for 2 minutes

    11. 11

Stir in the roasted chana dhal

    12. 12

Gradually add the milk mixture, stirring continuously

    13. 13

Keep stirring for about 5 minutes before adding condensed milk

    14. 14

Add the condensed milk and stir

    15. 15

Keep stirring until the halwa has dried and the colour has darkened, about 10 minutes more; taste and add sugar if desired

    16. 16

Transfer the mixture to a greased bowl and flatten the surface

    17. 17

Garnish with the reserved raisins and almonds and let cool down before serving
