From Basque cheesecake to signature drinks, Chikooz Café has made its mark on Mauritius' food scene. Behind this Grand Baie address is Chahek, a passionate baker who turned her dream of opening a café into a real entrepreneurial venture. From a Passion for Baking to the Creation of Chikooz The story of Chikooz Café begins with its founder, Chahek, who settled in Mauritius after living abroad. After completing her studies, she initially pursued an office job while holding on to a passion she had developed from a young age: baking. Between making cakes, decorating them and experimenting with her own recipes, she had long dreamed of opening her own café. She eventually decided to leave her job and dedicate herself fully to food, bringing Chikooz Café to life. Today, the café is located along Chemin Vingt Pieds in Grand Baie and offers a welcoming setting with both indoor and outdoor spaces, including an area near the pool. Basque Cheesecake, the House Speciality If there is one speciality that deserves a particular mention at Chikooz, it is the Basque cheesecake. Originally from the Basque Country in Spain, this cheesecake is known for its caramelised top, especially creamy centre and lack of a traditional biscuit base. At Chikooz, it has become one of the café's signature creations, served with different variations and accompaniments. Dessert lovers also have plenty of other reasons to stop by, with brownies, carrot cakes, muffins, doughnuts, cupcakes and customised cakes among the treats available. Chikooz is not limited to pastries. Its menu also includes brunch dishes, burgers, salads, pizzas, sandwiches and a range of vegetarian options. A Drinks Menu for Every Kind of Break Another highlight at Chikooz is its selection of drinks, which goes far beyond a simple cup of coffee. Those looking for something warm or refreshing can choose from: Hot and iced coffees Matcha Signature chai Iced teas Lemonades Milkshakes The café therefore offers plenty of options to enjoy with brunch, a slice of cheesecake or simply during a break with friends. Chahek's signature chai also holds a special place in the café's identity, reflecting the personal influences she brings to the menu. Chikooz Beyond the Café: An Active Presence at Food Festivals Chikooz Café is not limited to its Grand Baie location. The café also takes part in several food events across the island, giving a wider audience the chance to discover its homemade creations and signature drinks. Recent appearances include the Coca-Cola Food Festival as well as the Food & Wellness Village , held in early September 2026 at Grand Baie La Croisette. Chikooz also took part in the first edition of the Mauritius Coffee Festival (Coffee & Co.) . Through these events, Chikooz continues to connect with food lovers, introduce its specialities to new customers and strengthen its presence within Mauritius' food scene.
