La Jonque Restaurant
21/05/2013 par Rishi Ruchaya
This is the second time I have visited La Jonque Restaurant after a successful debut visit in 2009 when I married. On this second occasion, it was my wife’s birthday and the manager and staff kindly facilitated our plans for a celebration by ensuring that our purchased birthday cake was freshly stored for a presentation at the end of the meal. As one would anticipate on a Monday evening, the restaurant was fairly empty with two neighbouring customer tables present. We ordered a set menu for 4 (first option on the back page of the menu) and this comprised of conservative Chinese main dishes that included as starters squid, battered chicken balls and crab soup and mains sizzling king prawns, chicken in black bean sauce, a vegetable main and large prawn fried rice. All dishes were served hot, looked and tasted fresh. Given the modest weekday customer attendance, the location at Grand Bai provides a positive ambience to this particular eating venue. This said we were disappointed with the attentive level of waiter service. On several occasions we had to call for service and, failing this, we had to catch the eye of the barman to signal that service was required from us albeit the actual service being helpful and polite. Upon the respective dishes being delivered, there was unfortunately no description of what was being served to us and this compounded the adverse waiter service levels that we experienced. On the positive side, we were not rushed during our meal and the food was delivered to the correct table. We appreciated the effort made by the staff to incorporate the birthday event and I enjoyed this part the most together with beautiful evening views of Grand Bai. My main dislike aside from the aforementioned point was the lack of what I term ‘follow-up’ waiter service asking if everything is alright with our food and if there is a requirement for any further items. After a reassuring positive experience in 2009 providing a prompt return in 2013, I would now be hesitant to fully commend this restaurant given the levels of service experienced, however, as a customer being more concerned with the culinary delights on offer and I can confidently report that the portions are of reasonable quantity, taste of good quality and general good value of money given the attractive location.

Domaine Anna was recommended to me by a close friend in the UK (London) and we organised a visit there, in part, for a ‘congratulations’ meal following my sister-in-laws recent graduation. We visited http://restaurants.mu/ as a first point of call to reserve our place and read the balanced reviews prior to our visit. Domaine Anna is located on route to Flic-en-Flaq and is in the middle of sugar cane fields. Ideal commute to the restaurant would be by car. There were ample parking spaces. Upon entering the premises, the feeling was one of an adventure with a miniature backdrop waterfall providing soothing sounds to fully seated dining tables as one would expect on a Saturday evening. The warm and welcoming atmosphere was enhanced by a fireworks display hosted by a wedding reception taking place that same evening. Seated at table 36 with an elevated view of the fireworks display and within earshot of a live band, we ordered a mixture of poulet, calamar, king prawn and poisson dishes. All dishes arrived hot and fresh with explanation provided on each main dish as they arrived. The impressive serving technique from main dish to our respective plates was slightly impaired by the waitress not explaining to us what each dish was prior to serving. Given the high number of customers, the service level maintained was attentive, polite and helpful and no rush was placed to finish our meal. We most enjoyed the tranquil ambience and the opportunity to walk around the complex after our meal taking numerous photos of the various features on display such the waterfalls and the broad variety of tropical fish. The slight dislike we would mention would be the time taken for our meal to arrive given the maximum seated number of customers but the portions were of reasonable size, tasty and therefore good value for money. As the evening progressed the live band featured some very talented singers with customers dancing to the beats through to the late hour. In summary, we would highly recommend a visit to Domaine Anna and would not hesitate to return in the near future.

This is a bad bad review from a very unhappy customer: You arrive at the restaurant's doorstep and find yourself obliged to PAY to be able to use the restaurant's parking... As if you eating in the restaurant is not enough forthem. On your way to your table you see stray dogs everwhere IN the restaurant and sitting next to you while you eat the average-standard dinner and service offered to you Just when you think that all the troublesome experience is over, the BILL hits you right in the face. You are not just charged for the just-okay food but also for the TIPS. Yes, mates. A 10% of the total bill is charged for the tips. And i must point out that all of these (the paid parking, strat dogs, tips charges) were NOT informed by the restaurant. Disgusted..

Went there last saturday. Orderd as entree: prawns raviolli and some calamaris. Both were excellent. Raviolli were perfectly cooked and calamari was not elastic, thus cooked at perfection. As main course we ordered : a pizza ( nonni flavor if im not wrong) and entrecote d'agneau grillé. What was a bit odd was the waiting time to have those two plates. Was around 40 minutes between entree and main course. Maybe because there were lots of take away pizzas going. But the pizza was one of the best i ate and the lamb could melt in your mouth.you can feel the different flavors in your palate. Would not hesitate to go back there again.

Awesome food. but service is a little lame though. Each time i went there, had to wait more than 15 minutes to be able to get someone to take my order and another 15 minutes to come. Twice i got the starters at the same time i got my main dish! Service must be improved but still remains a great place.

The food is good and they don't seem to skimp on ingredients. Around Rs350 for their large pizza. Their lasagna (Rs350 too) is way bigger than Pizza Hut's, which is awesome. However they close way too early. Went in around 8:40pm(on a Monday) and they said they were closed.

Being almost 10,000 miles away was stressing me as to whom to contact, what to pay, or if the service would be delivered as ordered. Well...Blek & Romy made all of those concerns go away as they arraigned to have 2 birthday cakes custom made and delivered to a friend. The 1st was Non-veggie Large, and the 2nd was Veggie (Small). The cakes were enjoyed by more than 20 party goers and there was cake left over to take home. I highly reccommend the R&B Cake Studio to nationals, expats, and International customers. Thank you both very much! :-)

The other night my guests and I had dinner at the Nouvelle France Comlone restaurant. Unfortunately, a bad customer service experience tainted the evening. The good news is that this event created a learning opportunity that is never go there again. I thought I would share it with the blog community as a means to help learn what your staff should not do when a customer/client is dissatisfied. The service was off to a rocky start as the waiter took quite a while to get to us. But we tried to give him the benefit of doubt. The food was cold on arrival, the waiter was least interested to what we had to say and it just got worst after there. Some customers have suggested some training to the staff at Comlone. From what we have experienced, the sooner this is done, the better it will be if you are to survive in this competitive area.
RépondreCatch of the Day Mauritius

February 2013 We were very good customers in this fish shop. Until one day we purchased a huge quantity of frozen fish which was labeled "fresh dorado", "capitaine fillet" and "vielle fillet" for a total amount of 2,200.00 Rs. We started to prepare the fish right away at home for our family party. As we opened the sealed packages a bad smell conquered the whole place. The fish was not at all "fresh", it was exactly the opposite: SPOILT ! All of it. We suppose they could not sell it and sealed it for their clients in plastic bags to place it in the freezer that nobody can smell the cheat. We went back to the shop the other day. Once we explained our complaints to the person who works in the shop, he denied everything. He laughed and did not even take it serious. He said the owner changed and therefor he can not do anything. No replacement nor refund ! That was too easy for him. ! NEVER AGAIN we will trust this shop and do even one step into the door of this badly managed place. So, if other clients did not face this yet, be aware, the day will come… Just be prepare with this comment. Invest your money better elsewhere !

We have been to OB on many occasions and it is consistently good food. Generallly we order the same dishes Sushi which is always very fresh like salmon sushi platter and tastes good . The Prawn and squid grills are excellent Service is generally very. .efficient and curtious also. Only criticism toilets very small and they have no activities for families with young children. Fortunately food arrives in good time to feed them!

Had a late lunch there some weeks ago. We had a platter for 2 & it was just delicious. I like their idea of "mix platter"; you get serve a variety (fish, prawns, calamari, etc) within one meal. Not forgetting that everything was just perfectly cooked. Our waiter was a very pleasant guy, always ensuring we got everything we needed. We really enjoyed our meal. No need to say we'll be back for more quality meal soon!
