Gateau Arouille (Taro Fritters) Recipe


Recipe Overview

Locally known as Gato Arouille, these fritters are made by grating taro roots and frying them until they are crispy. It has a slight sweet and salty taste, combined with ginger. Another recipe from the Sino-Mauritian community, which is enjoyed by all.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1Kg Taro Roots
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp salt Or salt to taste
  • 1/2 Tsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger Paste Or Grated
  • 1 Cup Spring Onion
  • 1/2 Cup / 60 g CornFlour Or More Depending of your mixture
  • Oil for Frying

Instructions

  • Grate Taro finely
  • Add salt and sugar
  • Add ginger paste
  • Add spring onion and mix
  • Shape Taro into medium sized balls
  • Heat oil in a pot on medium heat
  • Fry Taro for 5 mins or until golden
