Les Sirandanes

This restaurant was recommended to us by a very trusted source, as it can serve Sea Urchin (L'Oursin) with adequate notice ... usually 7 days.

Unfortunately the abilities of the staff on the telephone leave a lot to be desired, whether you speak in English or French. No-one ever returns a call, and most don't seem to know about the possibility of ordering...

special dishes.

That aside, we went anyway. The setting is wonderful, a great framed private setting over the harbour, I'd certainly consider this as a fine hotel. Service in the restaurant is a bit odd, but quick with the food.

The starters were very disappointing .. a sort of brown crabmeat tart that wasn't that nice, and a palm heart saffron thing that didn't work all that well, good idea though.

Our mains (duck and gambas) were excellent, portions on the small side, but well thought out and executed beautifully.

THe mains were not unreasonably priced, but the starters and desserts were way over par.

As our last meal in Mauritius, it was a positive experience!
