What to order
A double smash burger with cheese, fried chicken by the piece or the bucket, wings with a chilli or barbecue glaze, chips with cheese sauce, and a milkshake where the grill makes them. Independent grills often run a weekday combo far cheaper than the mall pricing.

Burgers & Fried Chicken Restaurants in Mauritius
Burgers and fried chicken are the island's default quick meal, and the independents have caught up with the chains: smash burger grills in Grand Baie, Trou aux Biches and the plateau towns, and chicken counters in every town centre.
The chains hold the malls — Bagatelle, Phoenix, Cascavelle, the Port Louis waterfront — while the independents work main roads and food trucks, usually later into the evening and at lower prices.
