Panakon is a slightly spicy tamarind lemonade, served during prayers and religious festivals. This refreshing drink originates from South India.

    Ingredients

    • 1 Pink Lady apple
    • 1 juicing orange
    • 5 limes
    • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
    • 1 tablespoon ground cardamom (it's best to roast the seeds and grind them yourself)
    • 6 cardamom pods (optional)
    • 350g brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste

    Preparation

    1. Cut two orange slices and one of the limes into slices and set aside for the final presentation.
    2. Press the orange, 4 of the limes, and add the juices to a large bowl or fountain as shown in the picture, along with the cardamom and ginger powder. Also, add the sugar and tamarind and mix well.
    3. Peel the apple and remove the core. Grate it very finely; a food processor is better as you can extract the juice.
    4. Add a little over 5L of water to the container.
    5. Integrate the orange and lime pieces into the panakon. Mix well and leave in the refrigerator for at least 2 to 3 hours so that it is very cold and the spice flavors can be released. With ice cubes, it's also very pleasant! Enjoy!
