The 15 Best Bakeries in Central Mauritius

Bakeries are the most-visited food shops in the country, and the plateau has more of them than anywhere else: a counter on almost every main road, queues at six in the morning for pain maison and gâteaux piments, and a second rush at four when school ends. The difference between a good one and an ordinary one shows up quickly in reviews — freshness, the state of the bread by late afternoon, whether the cakes are made on site.

Every bakery in the central region with enough reviews to be ranked appears below, ordered by the same score used across the site.
