Recipe Overview
Sesame Balls (Gateau Zinli in creole), is a delicious Chinese dessert also known as Jian Dui. The pastry is coated with sesame seeds on the outside and is crisp and chewy. They are ideal for tea time or as day time snacks.
Recipe Ingredients
- 2 Tbsps Butter (softened)
- 1/4g Cup | 50g Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1/4 Cup | 56ml Water
- 3 Tbsps Sesame Seed
- 2 Cups | 280g Plain Flour
- 1 Tbsp Baking Powder
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix butter with sugar
- Add 1 egg and mix with 1/4 cup of water
- Add 3 tbsps sesame seed
- Add 2 cups of plain flour
- Add 1 tbsp of baking powder
- Mix until a soft and slightly sticky dough is obtained
- After having made the dough, roll into small balls
- Dip the balls in water and coat evenly into the sesame seeds
- In a pan, heat some oil for frying
- When the oil is medium hot, dip the sesame balls one at a time and keep stirring until a light brown colour is obtained.
