Recipe Overview
Gato Merveille, made from basic all purpose white flour only is truly of a great wonder to the taste buds of many. It is one of the most popular snacks (or street food) in Mauritius.
Recipe Ingredients
- 300g Plain Flour
- 3/4 Cup Oil
- 1 Tbsp Salt
- 1/2 Cup Water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the altogether flour and salt
- Add about 1/4 cup of oil
- Incorporate water slowly until a soft dough is obtained.
- Put a little oil over the top and allow to rest for 10-15 minutes
- Divide the dough into small balls
- Dip the ball in some flour and roll one by one
- Roll out the dough as thin as possible and reserve
- Heat your frying pan, preferably a large one, to medium hot.
- Dip the merveille one at a time and constantly stirring until golden brown.
- Remove and drain using kitchen towels
Serve with an assortment of chutneys either Tomato or Coriander Chutney or even Tamarind chutney.
Note: The dough should be as thin as if you are making tortilla.
