well, first and LAST time to eat at this supposed to be famous and excellent japanese restaurant.
we called and reserved a table for two a day before. On the said day, we reached there and it was like what, when....ok, have a seat where you want.
We said nevermind and straightaway we were served the drinks menu. We ordered appletizers but to our surprise 2 full glass of...

non-bubbly apple juice was served to us which tasted like "fiesta pomme"!!!
Well, to cut a story short, we ordered salmon sushi as starters but we received a maki ...hmmm
The main course was supposed to be a salmon steak but in reality a slice of salmon wrapped in a mountain of unidentified vegetables.....
enough said, there too much bad thing that needs to be said but i would only recommend those interrested to know the full story to experience it....hahaha..

Nous sommes allés y manger le 25/12/10 au soir : buffet, plat, puis dessert (tout à volonté) pour un prix très correct pour ce jour spécial : environ 20 euros par personne (boissons en +).
Les enfants ont adoré manger avec les baguettes (c'était la 1ère fois) !
Nous y retournerons sans soucis lors d'un prochain voyage à l'île Maurice.

Well well, have been twice to another well-known sushi restaurant at Grand Baie (Sakura) and was very much pleased with the services and the food quality.
Afterwards wanted to try another sushi restaurant and came across Wakame and its website. was much surprised when I saw the pictures and seems much tempting.
Amazingly, pictures and reality are two different things.....

Brought my hubby there for our 3 months wedding anniversary and was very deceived with the customer services and more with the food.
It was a saturday in November, when we reached there they said today is the Buffet day, ahhhh what a surprise, we can taste all their specialities. We had some apetizers, and had to wait a long time for the main course. Went upstairs to see the chef at work and preparing our food but then they said we have to order and the chef will prepare while we have to wait downstairs at our table. Been there for almost 3hours for just for a noodle menu. Was too much and we went away with almost empty stomach and a loss of Rs 1600 :(
very deceived.

At Rs. 400/pax on a friday night, for a sushi buffet, this deal is a steal.

Japanese food in mauritius is quite expensive and as a fan, i have forked out "fortunes" in the past. Wakame on a usual day is quite expensive, but those deal hunters out there, line up for fridays....mmmm...

Service can be good or bad, depending on who you ends up with. The chinese...

lady, who, i assume is the manager, will go far to make you feel very comfortable. However, when she is not there, the service is quite despicable.

What could help would be a wine deal with the buffet deal. Afterall, we all wine and dine.

I saw an article in the newspaper about the restaurant and my wife insisted we go there to celebrate our wedding anniversary...We found no review in here and learn about the place and menu on the link to the restaurant's page in here...The pictures and wordings really were mouth watering but to tell you how looks can be so much deceiving, just read further down...

followed the map found on the restaurant webpage which I have downloaded on my mobile but it was not helpful at all so we had to ask our way but no one in Grand Bay seems to know the place, not even the taxi drivers, after like an hour of search, we drove by the place and found it on our own!!

The place was deserted on a Sunday evening, not a person in sight at the desk and in the restaurant,we were very much hesitant about going back on our steps and finding somewhere else but finally someone showed up after our calls and tapping on the desk well if only we knew, we would have gone back on our steps indeed!!!! To our amazement, they haven't noted down the reservation we made several days ago, hopefully the restaurant was not packed full !! The place looked nice and trendy indeed. We asked for the teppenyaki menu and the waiter asked us to follow him on the first floor.

It was our first experience with Japanese cuisine and were very much enthusiastic about it!! But it was such a huge disappointment first with the waiter who is unable to describe or recommend the sauces to have with our grilled food. We ordered sake and it came like tasteless rhum on a chilly winter night, we didn't know that it could be served hot and they didn't offer that choice!! Another waiter told us to try the tamarind and pineapple sauce but made no mention about the change in sauces to the cook, when we mentionned we looking forward to tasting that sauce, the cook halve the sauce for one person for our two platters, again tasteless as ever, very bland!! We were having difficulty eating with the chopsticks and told the cook about it, he didn't even volunteer and not even the waiter to teach us how to eat with the them,it would have taken some minutes of their time when they are there just grinning to each other like silly people!!!

The portion is ridicule, like for a baby when the price is way expensive!! You get a fried egg for two persons with two tiny winy bowl of fried rice again plain with just soy sauce. We had dessert of two scoops of ice cream and a small mousse, such a shame for such a trendy place to offer such a dessert and menu!!!!

A waste of Rs1900 for two persons, we would have eaten to our fill had we gone to a simple fast food, we were looking for adventure and our first Japanese food experience was the worst we could have imagined, so such for our wedding anniversary, it has spoilt the mood for the evening!!!

This is the best sushi place ever.. and esp in a country that have very few japanese restaurants. The deals available on Fridays and Saturdays are great, and the service is always impeccable. The only thing is that it would be great if they did take some a la carte orders on those days.. :-) Otherwise, it is perfect place to go with affordable prices if u r sushi fan..
