Recipe Overview
Gato Patate (Sweet Potato Cake) is a deep fried sweet with lots of shredded coconut and sugar filling. It is the must-do Diwali cake in Mauritius.
Recipe Ingredients
- 5 potatoes
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 tsp Raisins
- 3 tbsp Coconut
- 2 cups of sugar
Instructions
- Boil potatoes until soft then mash
- Add flour
- Mix together until dough is fully formed and set aside
- Mix sugar, raisins and coconut together
- Flatten dough then add mixture to dough and close around the border
- Heat oil and fry for 8-10 mins
